IMPACT STORIES

St. Gabriel's Pregnancy and Parenting Program

A young family came into the CCCTX office seeking pregnancy and parenting support. During their intake interview their counselor learned that the couple was struggling to make ends meet. They were provided guidance on how and where to apply for jobs, and now the new parents are self-sufficient to care for their new child and living in their own home.

St. Michael's Veterans Services

This veteran family was experiencing homelessness for almost a year and had been living out of their car for months when they knocked on the door of CCCTX. The St. Michael’s Veteran Services team worked with the couple to get them stable housing and furniture, and the family moved into their new apartment home in March 2024. Through the generous contribution of CCCTX partner Ladies of Charity-Lake Travis, the couple also received a house-in-a-box kit with kitchen supplies, bedding, and more.

Refugee Settlement Services

A refugee family from Cuba received holistic help from CCCTX that put them on a path for self-sufficiency and a future with dignity.

Counseling Services

A woman was suffering from extreme trauma, left untreated for many years. She bravely sought help from CCCTX to address her mental health. Now, with guidance from her CCCTX counselor, she has been able to begin processing this trauma. She is already experiencing the benefits — she is finding herself again and is able to build relationships with others and enjoy her life with dignity.

Immigration Legal Services

Jamshid sought legal representation from the CCCTX Immigration Legal Services program after a year-long journey to the United States from his home country of Afghanistan. Arriving to a new country, he found himself alone without any family support or funds to pay for legal services. The CCCTX Immigration Legal Services program was able to help Jamshid navigate the complicated legal process and cover his legal fees with the help of donors and special grants.

Disaster Response

A family of five was impacted by the Temple-are tornados in May 2024 and received help from the CCCTX Disaster Response program. At the time of the tornado, a son was deployed overseas. He was granted emergency family leave to come home and help his family.

The same family had unexpectedly lost a sister and nephew a few months prior and had to cover funeral expenses for both. This left them in a financially emotionally vulnerable situation. CCCTX stood in the gap to help.

Financial Responsibility

Lavon is a veteran who came to CCCTX for support. During his initial intake meeting with a counselor, he revealed that he had been in a car accident, which rendered him unable to continue his job. Although Lavon was receiving VA income benefits, they were insufficient to cover his living expenses. He was worried about being evicted from his apartment and was desperate for rental assistance. His screening determined that he did qualify for assistance. CCCTX helped him cover his rent and utilities for three moths, and helped Lavon find secure employment to help him get back on his feet.
